Wearing shorts in Paris in July, what should we do?

My pet snail Eudoxia and I stumbled over a threshold and broke a finger on our foot! That is, I broke a finger, Eudoxia was stressed but unharmed. It happened in May. Being brave soldiers, we walked around doing our duty till yesterday, when the puffiness and the pain in the said finger took us to the clinic. Now we have a cast on our foot! The problem is, we are simple people, and have to do our chores ourselves, going out, buying groceries, cleaning products and such. But, our leg does not fit into any jeans now. We do have buggy jeans shorts, which are a little above our knees. The problem is, les gens in Paris hate shorts. We are afraid to go out, dressed like this. Will a walking stink in hand be enough to prevent any anti-shorts comments and actions, or not? What should we do?
