What percentage of British school leavers go on to University?

I can't give you figures on British students but hopefully I can help for the UK. The number of UK students at UK universities fell from 1.97 million in 2007 to 1.96 million last year. 78% of applicants (I think by this they mean applicants in and out of UK) got a place in 2008, only 75% did in 2009.
