2000 Kia Sephia w/ Check Engine Light.... Will it automatically fail emissions?

Most states will automatically fail you when they see the CEL is on. Goto your local auto store and have them scan your computer, if you beg hard enough they might erase the code for you. Or you can go buy one from wallmart for $60 and do it yourself. I bought one and use it all the time.
